Do you have grown children that live with you? Do their kids live with you too? Some people might find it a bit odd but others actually enjoy it. A recent study I conducted showed that 6 out of ten elders enjoy having their kids or grandkids living with them. They say it gives them a feeling of safety. While you may be thinking it could be overbearing, it actually relieves stress for the grandparents or parents. Think of all the things they can do for you! Dishes, trash, sweeping, folding clothes, all a thing in the past! Instead of completing these tiring tasks by yourself, they're there to help; better yet, do it for you! Are you a heavy sleeper? Have you ever thought about what you would do if someone broke in while you were in bed? Seniors aren't as agile as they once were. Having your kids around to wake up when things like this happen, is extremely beneficial. Think about what would happen if you didn't wake up? Or if you did but it was too late. Bottom line, you want them there. The only cons my elders could come up with was spending too much time together. They worry that if they all live together long enough, it could cause a growth of resentment within the household. While this is true to some extent, there are many ways around it. You don't have to spend every minute together.
You could stick to the whole family dinner idea and leave it at that. Dinner with the family once or twice a week to talk and catch up on how the week has been. All of this being said, How do you feel about it? Leave your comments below and see how other seniors feel as well. Also feel free to leave comments on how you spend time with your family. People like to learn new things to do with their loved ones.
